Congress established the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps with the passage of the Reserve Officer Training Corps Vitalization Act of 1964. The program formally went into effect in High Schools in the Fall of 1966.
Since its inception in October of 1973, Chugiak High School’s Mustang NJROTC has been a strong Unit that continues to excel in all that it does. Mustang Company supports both school and community by participating in myriad volunteering events throughout the course of the school year and during the summer. And, although the Unit certainly deserves a job-well-done for its untiring efforts, none of it would be possible without the continued support of our dedicated parents, Chugiak High School staff, and community organizations.
The 2014/15 school year has been a busy one; The Unit has logged 1594 man-hours in community service events, 748 in school support functions, and 422 in environment-oriented projects. Additionally, Mustang Company has competed in, and placed in several various Joint -JROTC Academic, Marksmanship, Athletic and Drill competitions throughout the course of the school year. The dedication, professionalism, and performance of the Unit have been, and continue to be truly noteworthy.
