Greetings Chugiak Families!

The 2017-2018 school year got off to an amazingly positive and smooth start! Chugiak is “buzzing” again with many plans for a successful and productive school year.  It’s been great fun seeing our new students fill the hallways and be able to welcome back our returning students. Within minutes of the first bell to start first period on the first day, the halls were quiet, students were engaged, and teachers had begun. After so much work preparing things, it was a wonderful thing to behold.  Students and staff are smiling, excited about new classes, new opportunities, new friends, and the new year. It is invigorating to know that so many positive things are happening in our school.

As a school, we will continue to focus on our Destination 2020 goals. Destination 2020 is the Anchorage School District and Anchorage School Board’s multi-year plan to increase student achievement, graduation rate, safety and attendance by the year 2020. We will also focus on increasing the number of students and parents who recommend our school to others. Destination 2020’s framework for success is built around four strategies: focusing on students, investing in staff, engaging the community and strengthening our services. We strive to provide the best high school experience possible to you and our students in all areas.

I have had the pleasure of meeting many students and parents at Freshman Orientation, Back to School Night, sporting events, club meetings, and in hallways and classrooms. I am continually impressed with our students and their dedication, demeanor, and determination. Whether it be working on assignment, prepping for Homecoming, studying in the library or practicing on the field there is a resounding sense of pride in being a Mustang.

I thank you for welcoming me back to the Chugiak community and I am pleased to have a solid administrative team to support our students. Working together I know that the 2017-2018 school year will be one to remember. Please read on for Curriculum and Activities News.
